Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at superiorepoxysolutions@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Epoxy is a two-part thermosetting resin (resin and hardener) that chemically bonds to concrete, creating a durable, seamless surface. It is not merely paint, which is a one-part solution that simply dries.

An epoxy floor can last as many as 20 years or more, depending on the level of use and how it is maintained.

Epoxy floors can take up to five days to cure. This means the floor should have absolutely no traffic of any kind during the curing process. This ensures the floor retains its beautiful finish and lasts as long as possible.

It can take several days to properly install an epoxy floor. This time frame includes cleaning the floor, grinding it to open pores, repairing defects in the concrete, and laying down multiple coats of material that need time to cure in between.

Epoxy floors are easy to maintain. Regular sweeping/vacuuming and mopping with a mild cleanser is all that's needed to keep the floor looking great.

First, any existing sealers or old flooring must be removed. Next, any cracks or other defects are repaired, after which a grinder is used to smooth the surface and open the pores in the concrete to ensure proper adhesion. Finally, the floor is thoroughly cleaned. Only after the floor is properly prepped can the epoxy be applied.

If an epoxy floor is wet or oily, it can become slippery. For this reason, an anti-slip additive may be put into the top coat to help prevent slipping.

The short answer is yes. Epoxy can be applied over damaged concrete, but only after any cracks or uneven areas are repaired and ground first.

Epoxy could potentially yellow over time, especially if it is exposed to direct sunlight regularly. For this reason, applying a polyurethane topcoat is recommended if the floor is exposed to UV radiation on a regular basis.

Absolutely! Epoxy creates a waterproof, seamless coating.

There are many colors available to match nearly any decor. Further, epoxy can be applied in a flake/chip layout in almost any color you can imagine. Also, epoxy floors can be created with a metallic, marbling effect , also in a wide range of colors.

While epoxy floors are durable and last many years, they are not indestructible. For example, direct sunlight can cause yellowing over time. Sharp objects can potentially scratch the topcoat, which allows dirt and spills to permeate the layers below. Also, sitting or sliding heavy machinery on top of an epoxy floor could cause dents or scratches in the surface. Finally, using harsh chemicals on an epoxy floor could leave stains and discoloration behind that cannot be removed.

No. Epoxy is durable enough to withstand pet nail scratches, even during toy chasing or daily zoomie sessions.

In most cases, installing epoxy flooring in a home increases its value and makes it more appealing to buyers.

Since a large floor grinder is used to properly prep the concrete floor before epoxy can be applied, dust is unavoidable. With that said, all equipment used during the process contains HEPA filters that trap 85-90 percent of the dust generated during the grinding process. Unfortunately, there is always a small amount of dust that escapes the filters. It's just a part of the job, but we do our best to minimize the mess.
